Gurkirat Kaur
Ms. Gurkirat Kaur is a Clinical Psychologist (A) who has been trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills, Person-Centred Therapy (PCT), and Logotherapy. She has had focused training and experience in Queer-Affirmative Therapy, Grief Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, and Schema Therapy. She pays close attention to how factors such as gender, family dynamics, socioeconomic context, cultural expectations, and health status shape each client’s experience.
She is especially drawn to working with LGBTQIA+ and HIV+ clients, offering both individual and group therapy. She brings a keen attunement to how isolation, layered hierarchies within the spectrum, and systemic oppression can erode a person’s sense of self. She has cultivated a strengths-based, collaborative, queer-affirmative and intersectional stance, further deepened by her work at Naz Foundation (India) Trust. She approaches therapy as a space where clients can reclaim their identities, process stigma and marginalisation, and rediscover pride, resilience and connection.
Her clinical experience includes work at SGT Hospital and mental health settings like Aatma Prakash, with adolescents, young adults, and adults. She has worked with individuals presenting with anxiety and mood disorders, emotional distress and dysregulation, stress related to academics and work, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, trauma- and adjustment-related concerns, substance use, and day-to-day emotional overwhelm. She is proficient in psychodiagnostic and personality assessments, as well as assessments of emotional, behavioural, and cognitive functioning across age groups.
She completed her Professional Diploma in Clinical Psychology (PDCP) from SGT University, Gurugram. She holds an MSc in Counselling Psychology from CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Delhi NCR, and a BA (Hons.) in Psychology from Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi. Her training at CHRIST had a strong focus on multicultural counselling, which strengthened her ability to work sensitively with clients from diverse sociocultural backgrounds and identities.
As a psychotherapist, she respects the courage it takes to seek help and strives to create a secure, non-judgmental, and gently challenging therapeutic space. Clients often describe her presence as warm, steady, and grounded, and find the clarity, reflections, and practical strategies offered in sessions helpful in understanding their patterns, processing difficult emotions, and moving towards lives that are more aligned with their values.
